Great advice, well laid-out.
From the Introduction by R. A. Salvatore, through the body of the guide by Philip Athans and the previously unpublished short story by Salvatore, to Athans discussion of the short story and his final wrap-up, The Guide to Writing Fantasy and Science Fiction is chock full of great information and advice drawn from his experience as a writer and editor, as well as interviews and commentary from other authors, including Terry Brooks, Harlan Ellison, Mike Resnick, and Kevin J. Anderson.
I found so many great pieces of information relevant to what I want to write that I could fill a small book with them. In addition, “Hugo Mann’s Perfect Soul” by R. A. Salvatore is an intriguing short story.
Aspiring Fantasy and Sci-Fi writers would do well to give this book a read. I’ve actually read a few books whose authors could stand to read this book, as well.
[Nearly four years later, I realized I need to provide a link to at least the Amazon site to find this book, The Guide to Writing Fantasy and Science Fiction by Philip Athans, published in July 2010.]
