beachDay 17, July 17th

Prompt: Put Into Words (Ekphrasis)

A Shell Collecting

She walks the beach collecting shells
devoid of the life they once held.
Trudging daily through ebbs and swells,
she walks the beach collecting shells-
catharsis for the pain that dwells
within her heart, who’s fire’s been quelled.
She walks the beach collecting shells,
devoid of the life she once held.

**Poetic Bloomings has In-Form Wednesdays.  This week is Ekphrasis.

Poem: Star Gazing on a Beach

Poem created in response to Poetic Bloomings’ “Life is a Beach” Gauntlet.

Day 12, July 12th

Prompt: Starry, Starry Night

revis 2/final

Star Gazing on a Beach
the crashing roar
of the waves
on the shore
the hissing
of the foam
as it fades away
into another roar
and another hiss
roar and hiss
over and over
louder and louder
closer and closer
to
us
lying
out of reach
of the highest point
of the surging tide, hand in hand,
gazing at the stars,
wondering
if there are lovers
on a distant world, hand in hand,
lying on a beach
near the surf
gazing
at
us

[modified the Fibonacci to look more like the rise and fall of a couple of waves]

lying on a beach
in love

Day 10, July 10th

Prompt: Seagulls (Triolet**)

Bird Food

The caw caw caw of the seagull
can be heard while closing on food.
Desiccated, my senses dull,
the caw caw caw of the seagull,
perched on my drifting piece of hull,
has got me coming quite unglued.
The caw caw caw of the seagull
can be heard while closing on food.

**Poetic Bloomings has In-Form Wednesdays.  This week the form is the Triolet.

Poem: Ride the Waves, Respect the Ocean

Poem created in response to Poetic Bloomings’ “Life is a Beach” Gauntlet.

Day 11, July 11th

Prompt: Lakes, Oceans, Waterways

(form: Shadorma –a duo)

Ride the Waves, Respect the Ocean
riding waves,
standing or lying
on a board
can give one
a false sense of mastery
over the ocean

regardless
of how well you surf
the ocean,
respect her,
or you’ll be tumbled, humbled,
served up a SANDwich

**I didn’t intend for these to be a one-two, but they kind of fit that way, so I gave them one title.  Mother Nature can be quite the Queen B. when you take her for granted.
