Favorite Book Series

My Favorite: The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (completed by Brandon Sanderson)

I picked up The Eye of the World in the Stars and Stripes bookstore in Camp Walker, Korea, in 1990 while looking for a book to read on the 14 or 15 hour flight back to the states.  I was hooked and have been an avid fan of the series since.  I’ve read most of the books in the series multiple times, including a second reading of The Gathering Storm and Towers of Midnight in my nine month series re-read in preparation for the final book, A Memory of Light.  I actually just sat on the couch, holding A Memory of Light in my hands for many minutes, running my hand over the cover, thinking back on the twenty-two and a half years I’d been reading the series…and, with mixed emotions, I opened the book and began reading.

My Reviews of the books in the series:

My Other Faves

The Cleric Quintet by R. A. Salvatore

The Chronicles Trilogy (formerly known as The Dragonlance Chronicles) by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman

I share a fair few favourites with you there, but I only managed to read a few of the Wheel of Time books 😦
I got distracted by exams and the like, and when I went to pick up where I left off I felt a bit lost, but re reading them felt too much like de ja vu
The same thing happened with the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. Have you read those?

I’ve not heard of that series, but I will likely read The Wheel of Time many more times. With so many characters spread across so many books, Jordan did a great job of developing most of the characters to just the right depth. I also love the One Power…how it’s split into a male half and female half and the way controlling it differs for the two, how it’s made up of different flows and weaves…very cool.
