Teaser Tuesday: Nightmares & Dreamscapes

Teaser Tuesday post for 1 July 2014:

Nightmares & Dreamscapes by Stephen KingBut it isn’t about the money, no matter what the glossy tabloids may say, and it’s not about selling out, as the more arrogant critics really seem to believe.  The fundamental things still apply as time goes by, and for me the object hasn’t changed–the job is still getting to you, Constant Reader, getting you by the short hairs and, hopefully, scaring you so badly you won’t be able to go to sleep without leaving the bathroom light on.

Poem: Yet dwells the fear…

Poem created in response to Robert Lee Brewer’s 2012 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 3, 3 Nov 2012.
Topic: A scary poem
Topic suggested by:  Joshua Gray

(form: Fibonacci)

Yet dwells the fear…
I’m
not
afraid
of living
alone and I know
that someday one of us will go
before the other, but when that test revealed a mass
it chilled me to the bone.  And though
we are safe this time,
in my core
yet dwells
the
fear.

Malevolent Grins – A Quote by Stephen King from “Kingdom of Fear”

Here’s a quote/excerpt by Stephen King from the book Kingdom of Fear:  The World of Stephen King edited by Tim Underwood and Chuck Miller:

“A friend of mine said you know you’re being scary when you can feel the malevolent grin begin to creep up your face — and he’s right.  Humor and horror are close together.  Both come from the same aggressive impulse and in both cases we laugh or scream because we’re happy it isn’t us.

I don’t think anybody laughs at anything that isn’t inherently aggressive or hurtful or painful.

We have a history of being drawn to horror.  Maybe it’s because we’re mortal and we keep trying to fit our minds around the concept of dying.”
