Travis shared that conviction.  His atavistic fear -and the reliance on instinct that it invoked- sent him hurrying after the dog, over the far side of the ridge, into another tree-filled canyon.

Teaser Tuesday: Innocence

Teaser Tuesday post for 21 &  28 June 2016
from Innocence by Dean Koontz

From 21 June…

After a sharp inhalation of shock, the two men were frozen for a moment at the sight of him. At first but only at first, their wrenched countenances were those of helpless children cornered by a thing that stalked them in their worst dreams, a thing that in the lands of sleep never quite possessed features but that now had a face more terrifying than their worst nightmares.

From 28 June…

When the pyrotechnics concluded and the sky brought forth only rain, Father said, "When men in power decide that things need to be rebalanced at any cost, the violence is never brief and never really directed solely at the imbalance that supposedly inspired it. The rule of law becomes the rule of violence."

He was about to turn away when something caught his eye: a cement cylinder with a heavy steel cap on the top.  Morlock holes, Ben used to call them, laughing with his mouth but not quite laughing with his eyes.

Teaser Tuesday: IT ( yet again)

Whatever it was, it came to me in the night, left its talisman...and then disappeared.

Tied to my reading lamp was a single balloon.

His face uttered a strange smile which said that, while he didn't believe anything so silly, he believed it completely.

Richie understood.

Poem: Yet dwells the fear…

Poem created in response to Robert Lee Brewer’s 2012 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 3, 3 Nov 2012.
Topic: A scary poem
Topic suggested by:  Joshua Gray

(form: Fibonacci)

Yet dwells the fear…
I’m
not
afraid
of living
alone and I know
that someday one of us will go
before the other, but when that test revealed a mass
it chilled me to the bone.  And though
we are safe this time,
in my core
yet dwells
the
fear.

Poems: Indivisible! & Course Correction Needed

Poem created in response to Robert Lee Brewer’s Wednesday Poetry Prompt 182, 4 July 2012.  Topic: patriotic or unpatriotic

(form: shadorma)

Indivisible!

Disparate
and sectarian
as we are,
we are still
one nation, that when riled is
indivisible!

(form: shadorma)

Course Correction Needed

“I’ve got a bad feeling about this.” – Han Solo

One nation
under Big Brother
will have no
liberty,
no justice for all, only
tyranny and fear.

Poem: Coming Out of the Dark

Poem created in response to Robert Lee Brewer’s Wednesday Poetry Prompt 167, 22 February 2012.  Topic: risk

This still seems a bit raw to me, but here it is…

Coming Out of the Dark

Her light long ago tamped
leaving her a shadow
of her former self
living in the shadows
of her former world

His light tentatively intrudes,
scattering her shadows,
the black and gray of her world,
threatening exposure of colors
long hidden in her sanctum

She’s coaxed into his light,
laying bare her fears, her pain,
stark and unhidden, still raw,
trusting in his promise
of enduring light and hope
